NEW ZEALAND TOUR
AUSTRALIAN RUGBY TEAM THREE TESTS SUGGESTED PA AUCKLAND, Apl. 14. The Australian Rugby team which will tour New Zealand this season will probably play about 12 matches in a tour of six weeks’ duration, according to the chairman of the Council of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr A. St. C. Belcher. The tour would take place in August and September. “We will suggest that three test matches should be played,” Mr Belcher said, “It is also proposed that the itinerary for the tour should be much the same as for the 1946 tour of New Zealand by the Australian team. That team played two tests, nine provincial games against North Auckland, Tara-naki-King Country. 'Wanganui-Mana-watu, Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay, Seddon Shield districts, Canterbury, South Canterbury-North Otago-Ash-burton. Southland, Wellington, and against the New Zealand Maoris." The selectors for the New Zealand Maori team to tour Queensland and New South Wales in May and June would shortly be chosen, Mr Belcher said.
No consideration had yet been given to the appointment of All Black selectors. He understood that two members of the committee of three of last year, Mr N. A. McKenzie and Mr H. S. Strang, would be available.
