SKIN CARE
A Simple Routine
All of us want a good skin, but many are just too lazy to give our complexions the care necessary to preserve a good skin or help a poor one. First rule is cleanliness. Without absolute cleanliness, all the tricks of make-up will not suffice to show your face as anything but dingy and second-rate. Wash thoroughly morning and night; in spite of everything, soap remains the best cleanser for most skins. If you have a very dry skin, however, you may find it possible to use a. good lather of your favourite soap only every second day, using a reliable cleansing milk suited to your type for other washings. Whatever you choose, remember your twicedaily thorough cleansing is something you can never afford to forget. Do not, then, go and spoil your nice clean skin by being careless about makeup hygiene. Those grimy, powder-caked puffs never did any skin any good. Dirt from them goes into your skin, forms blackheads and surface eruptions. A much better plan is to use cotton wool—and it is cheaper, too. Just take a small wad and use it for applying powder—but remember to throw it away and use a clean piece each time. By the way, you will find your powder spreads more evenly and can be used more sparingly this way. Fo r most skins soap and water can well be supplemented by something else. You will probably find a good cleansing cream on the market. Choose one that liquefies on meeting your warm skin, for it is a good medium for removing the grime of make-up during the day. If you feel that it leaves your skin just a little bit sticky, wipe your face over with a pad of cotton wool wrung out of cold water. At night, before you go to bed, give your skin an extra clean. Smear it lavishly with cream, leaving on for a few minutes, then remove with cotton wool pads wrung out in warm water. Leave a little film of cream on the face for the night and remove in the morning with tepid water.
