WESTERN SAMOA

Sir,—The Chicago Tribune editorial contrasting conditions in American Eastern Samoa with those of Western Samoa, which is partly under New Zealand administration, is timely, and very much nearer the truth than our Prime Minister apparently would care to admit. The Samoans have asked for profits and even to controlling the reparation estates, controlled and operated in Western Samoa by the New Zealand Government to build roads, schools, etc. Mr Fraser's promise to the Samoans that this would be done has not yet been fulfilled. The Chicago Tribune anti-British policy as stated by Mr Fraser- may be so, I have no knowledge of that paper's policy. However, I do know that the Samoans are very definitely “ sick and tired ” of the New Zealand Government’s " taka all ” policy. I am sure a full and complete reply to the Tribune’s statements would be welcomed by many interested New Zealanders and Samoans alike.—l am, etc., Live and Let Live.
