KING PAUL APPEALS FOR SUPREME EFFORT NZPA—Copyright ATHENS, Mar. 25. King Paul of Greece to-day called on his people for a “ supreme effort ” for freedom and independence in a proclamation on the closing day of the country’s six days’ “ work and victory ” celebrations.
The' finest pages of Greek history were yet to be written, said the proclamation which was issued on the J 28th anniversary of Greece’s declaration of independence from Turkish yoke. .. . .
“The situation is still difficult, but to-day, thanks to the endurance and iron will of my people, thanks to the heroism of my army, we are beginning to see a favourable issue.” the King stated. “On this date last year I proclaimed that the country was in danger. To-day things present themselves in a better light, but we must still not relax our efforts. Now is the hour for us to throw into the struggle all our reserves, moral and material, to crush, with God’s aid, an already tottering enemy. I ask of you this supreme effort.”
