SUPPORT PLEDGED
CANTERBURY UNIONS
PA CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 27. Support for the Auckland Carpenters Union has been pledged by certain unions in Canterbury. These unions will give financial and moral support to the Auckland carpenters. Some of the unions have decided to levy their members for funds while the dispute lasts. Giving this information to-day, the secretary of the Trades Council, Mr A. B. Grant, said that the Canterbury Woollen and' Hosiery Workers’ Union had met during the week-end and had decided to support the Auckland carpenters financially, and would appeal to its members for funds. The executive of the Canterbury Rubber Workers’ Union had decided similarly, and the National Executive of the ASRS had issued an appeal to all its branches to support the carpenters and to provide them with funds. A special meeting of the executive of the Tramway Workers’ Union had unanimously decided to levy themselves to assist. The secretary of the Canterbury Carpenters’ Union. Mr F. L. Langley, said to-day that during the week-end three donations of monoy to assist the Auckland carpenters had been received.
