“AMPLE EVIDENCE”
CONVICTION ON LICENSING BREACH
BAR IN PRIVATE HOUSE PA WELLINGTON, Mar. 25. “Where in a private house there is a room fitted as a bar, a barman serving 16 people from bottles with ‘ bowsex-s ’ and money under the bar, there is ample evidence for a conviction.” This was stated by the magistrate. Mr A. M. Goulding, in imposing the maximum penalty of £SO on William Robertson Hislop, a car salesman, in the Magistrate's Court to-day. Hislop was charged with keeping liquor for sale on unlicensed premises.
Charged with selling liquor on unlicensed premises. Eric Albert Miles, a barman, was convicted and fined £2O, and he was convicted and ordered to pay costs on a charge of taking liquor into a no-licence area. Both men resided at 16 Rolleston street.
The 16 people who were there at tne time of the raid were convicted. The men were fined 30s and the women were ordered to pay costs.
