COST OF CLOTHING

DEVELOPMENTS AWAITED Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Mar. 23. The decision of the Price Tribunal to require the manufacturers to absorb the cost of the clothing trade wage increases is regarded as an indication of the tribunal’s general policy which may soon affect a wide range of other industries. The trade union movement has for a long time now been requesting the Government to use price control to force employers to absorb the cost of wage increases rather than pass it into price increases. This course has been taken by the tribunal with the clothing trade, and further developments are now awaited with interest by the workers’ and employers’ representatives alike.
