Mr J. E. Tier, M.A., who is at present first assistant at Matamata College, ha s been appointed principal of the Hastings High School from the beginning of the second term on the retirement of Mr W A. G. Penlington, who has been principal since 1922. There were 40 applicants. Advice has been received from the New Zealand Society of Accountants that Messrs L. B. Brighton, M. A. Connelly, A. V. Dawson, A. L. Gubb and J. M. Metcalfe, of Dunedin, have been admitted to the society with the status of associate registered accountant (ARANZ). Mr T. S. Wright, Oamaru, has been granted a transfer to the status of associate public accountant (APANZ), and Mr T. E. Roff, Dunedin, has been granted a transfer to the status of fellow registered accountant (FRANZ).
