THREE OTAGO MEN
RUGBY PLAYERS OF YEAR ALMANACK’S SELECTION PA WELLINGTON, Mar. 23. Three All Blacks who are to tour South Africa, one who was selected but withdrew from the team, and a oart-Maorj who was ineligible for the South African tour, were chosen as the five Rugby players of 1948 in the New Zealand Rugby Almanack annual. They were J. C. Kearney, fiveeighths, W. A. Meates, wing threequarter, and R. A. Dalton, back-row forward (all of Otago), who are all to tour South Africa, V. D. Bevan (Wellington), the All Black scrum half to Australia in 1947 who was ineligible for South Africa, and W. G. Argus (Canterbury), 2nd NZEF and All Black winger, who withdrew from the South African tour because of family and business reasons. The five most promising players making their first appearance as representatives last season are:—B. W Beazley (North Auckland), K. C. Stuart (Canterbury), John Hotop (Bush), G. F. Turner (Nelson) and G M. Bryant (Horowhenua).
