DUNEDIN SUPPORT

“MORAL AND FINANCIAL’*

RESOLUTIONS BY UNION EXECUTIVES

“That after hearing the report of the national councillor on the carpenters’ dispute, this meeting endorses the resolution passed unanimously by the National Council pledging moral and financial support to the Auckland carpenters who have been locked out by their employers, and that a special meeting of the National Council of the Federation of Labour be called forthwith to implement this resolution.” 'This was the text of the resolution carried at a special meeting held last night, convened by the Otago District Council of the New Zealand Federation of Labour of all affiliated unions. The meeting, which was largely attended, was presided over by the president of the District Council, Mr W. B. Richards. . Other resolutions carried dealing with the carpenters’ dispute were as “ That this meeting recommends to all affiliations that special meetings of their unions be called for the purpose of endorsing the actions of this meeting, and to decide in which form their support should be directed; that the Federation of Labour be called upon to supply speakers for factory and workshop lunch-hour meetings whore required; that all affiliations be recommended to give consideration to asking their national organisations to organise support and to notify the national executive of the Federation of Labour of their resolutions of moral and financial aid to the Auckland carpenters; that this meeting resolves that it is essential for all affiliations to give the fullest publicity to their resolutions of support for the Auckland carpenters, in order to combat the publicity campaign of the employers concerned in this unnecessary and brutal lock-out.”
