RIVER REPORTS

Prospects for salmon .fishermen over the week-end are again far from bright. The Waitaki River and its tributaries are still badly discoloured. A large number of salmon has been seen in the surf at the mouth of the Waitaki but only an odd one Is being taken. There are also a few trout being taken at the mouth. The salmon season has been one of the poorest experienced for some years. Just as the first run was taking place, the Waitaki became dirty and has remained in this condition ever since. The Hakataramea and Kakanui Rivers are now in good condition and some good bags have been secured. The Kakanui mouth has opened up, giving the trout a chance to run into the river.
