£500,000 APPEAL

Presbytery’s Support

A deputation comprising the Revs. A. C. McLean and A. D. Horwell and Messrs J. McCaw and T. I. Steel, waited on yesterday’s meeting of the Oamaru Presbytery 'to outline the General Assembly’s appeal for £500,000. ' It was pointed out that this money was required to meet the necessary and urgent expansion of the church's work in New Zealand and overseas and was made up as follows:—Church extension, including new housing areas, sites, church halls for youth work and manses, £250,000; Home Missionary contingency fund, £30,000; Theological education, £20,000; overseas missions, £75,000; Maori Missions, £50,000. loan fund, £75,000. The deputation gave a detailed report of the plan as outlined in the Assembly’s booklet, “ The Chqjlenge Facing the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand.” After hearing the deputation the presbytery pledged itself to give loyal support to the project.
