PEARS IN DEMAND

RATIONED TO TRADE CITY FRUIT MARKET A small delivery of pears was made to city fruit markets early in the week, but it 'was rationed to retailers. Freestone peaches continue to arrive, and all are realising good prices. . Nectarines advanced in price, being now approximatelv 12s or 13s. Dessert grade plums are meeting with a ready sale but jam are hard to place. Tomato prices are showing a tendency to firm, and cucumbers are meeting with a steady sale. Mushrooms are coming to hand and choice quality are bringing good prices. Prices for choice grapes from Kakanui are also satisfactory. Cabbage and cauliflowers are in steady demand but lettuce are meeting a slow sale. There is a good inquiry for swedes and carrots, and potatoes are short of requirements. There is also a good inquiry for a few jam melons which have come forward. Beans are in demand. Peas are in heavy supply, however, and prices have declined on those of last week.
