SURF CHAMPIONSHIPS
NATIONAL EVENTS DECIDED PA AUCKLAND, Feb. 28. In sunshine and light surf, the New Zealand Surf Life Saving Championships were decided at Waihi Beach at the week-end. A spectacular ■ march by 22 teams took place yesterday. In response to a call by the New Zealand president, Mr A. Gardner, £250 was collected from donations and gate —a record for a national championship meeting. Results:— March Past.—Maranui 1, South Brighton 2, Lyall Bay 3. Four-man Alarm Championship.— Waitemata, 64.5 points, 1; New Brighton, 63.46, 2; Island Bay, 61.11, 3. Beltman’s Championship.—J. Clark (Maranui) 1, N. Chambers (New Brighton) 2, C. Chambers [ (New Brighton) 3, Time, 2min 27.45ec. Surf Team Championship.—New Brighton 1. Paekakariki 2, Lyall Bay 3. Rescue and Resuscitation Championship.—New Brighton. 72.25 points, 1; Maranui, 72.2, 2; Paekakariki, 70.31, 3. Individual Surf Ski Championship.— D. Wright (Piha) 1, Thompson (New Brighton) 2, D. McLeay (Waihi) 3. Teams’ Surf Ski Championship.— Maranui, 27.3 points. 1; North Beach, 27, 2; Piha, 26.55, 3. Resuscitation Championship.—M. Fearon (New Brighton) 1. Women’s Events Four-man Alarm Championship.— Wellington, 63.68 points, 1; Milford, 60.55. 2; Fitzroy (New Plymouth), 59.9, 3.
