RUGBY FOOTBALL
GAMES AT EASTER Permission was granted by the Otago Rugby Football Union at its meeting last night to the Southern Club’s senior fifteen to play the Albion (Christchurch) Club’s senior team at Carisbrook on April 16, Easter Saturday, at a time to be decided. Permission was granted to the Alhambra Club to play a match with the Merivale (Christchurch) Club at Carisbrook on the same day. An application from the Dunedin Club for the use of grounds to conduct the 1949 Easter tournament of the South Island Catholic football clubs was held over for early consideration. Entries so far have been received from Hokitika, Christchurch. Ashburton, Timaru, Invercargill, and Dunedin. The club stated that grounds would be required on Saturday, April 16, and Monday, April 18. Mr D. C. Jolly informed the union that the Reserves Committee of the City Council hoped to have an extra Rugby ground at Bathgate Park this season, making a total of three at the pfirk. The Union Club advised that at about 7.45 p.m. on March 8. at the annual meeting of the club, a portrait of the late Mr H. F. Harris would be unveiled. Members of the union were invited to be present.
