Gunning, and the second was won by Young Charles, who is trained by C. R. Berkett. Gay Heritage is a bay filly by Springfield Globe, the sire of three-year-old classic winners this season in Croughton and Perpetua, from Bonny Volo, the dam of Bonny Josedale. Bonny Volo is by Lusty Volo (imp.) from Becky de Oro, by Rey de Oro—Becky M, by O.Y.M.—Miss Becky, by Electioneer (imp.). One of the unplaced horses in the second division was Alary Wootton, a bay filly by Springfield Globe from a grand race mare in Farisienne, the dam of Bohemian and Spring Fashion. She is raced by her breeder. Mr J R. McKenzie. Jottings Nominations for all events, including trotting, for the the Oamaru Jockey Club's autumn meeting, to be held on March 23 and 26, will now close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday,' March 8, and not March 2 as previously advertised. Withdrawals for the Invercargill Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday close today. Ipso Facto went an honest race to run second to Loyal Scott In the Kekerangu Handicap at Rangiora and, judged on his recent form, he will be a winner in the near future. Hineora. who fell in both her races at Forbury Park, was better suited by the grass track at Rangiora and she finished only a length behind Glamis Castle in the Second Hapuku Handicap. Quick Return Likely Air Mail promises to make a quick return for Mr A. Simpson, of Invercargill, who purchased her for 650gns at the dispersal sale of stock owned by the late Mr A. Mclntosh. The half-sister to Grattan Drive ran fourth to Aqua Lady, Fabric Silk, and Mobile Globe in the Kaikoura Handicap on Saturday when having her first start for her new owner. Attack Loses Ground
When Captain Gaillarct broke at the start of the Alexandra Park Handicap at Epsom on Saturday he interfered with Attack, who lost some ground. This made his task more difficult, but it is doubtful if he would have beaten Captain Sandy, who finished full of running. Attack was also pocketed In most of the way and diu not get clear until he had turned for home. Promising Young Trotter
Encircle, who won a division of the Keenan Handicap over two miles at the Kaikoura meeting last year as a three-year-old, showed that he is probably going to live up to his early promise by a fourth and a third at Rangiora on Saturday. He is owned and trained by W. J. Doyle, of Leeston. who has a great record with straight-out trotters. He is a gelding by Quite Sure from Within and he may pay his way at the smaller meetings. Consistent Mare Aqua Lady brought her record to two wins and eight placings in 14 starts for the season when she won the Kaikoura Handicap on Saturday. By the Sandydale horse. Water Ranger, she is out of Maureen Derby, by Nelson Derby from Moranne. a Rey de Oro mare who left a family of winners, Including Frances Easton. Colin Waters, Macfs Ace and Agate. Aqua Lady has improved with racing and should win again before the season closes. Well Deserved Win
Bon Voyage canned off a series of good performances with a solid win in the Peninsula Handicap at Rangiora. He made a fast move approaching the half-mile to lead into the straight, holding off Technicolour by half a length in the run home. Bon Voyage raced at the Forbury Park summer meeting, but he could not handle the small track. He can be expected to race well against a better class of horse than he beat on Saturday as he has more than average speed, but he has not always been reliable. Back from Stud Sandyetta, winner of the Stewards’ Handicap at the Kaikoura meeting, started racing this year as a nine-year-old. She was brought in from the matrons’ paddock and she has done very well under the care of J. Young to record three wins and a second so far this term. While at the stud she left Sandyshore to Quite Sure. Another mare to resume racing recently after having a year at the stud was Night Owl. who raced at the Gore meeting. Sandyetta is by Sandydale from a Wrack mare, by Man o’ War from Seaworthy, bv Captain Tracey. Fabric Silk at Best Fabric Silk came Into his own in the President's Handicap at the Kaikoura meeting on Saturday when he hung on to beat Mobile Globe narrowly. Earlier in the day he went a good race in the Kaikoura Handicap to rim second to Aqua Lady. His time of 4min 25 2-ssec was a good one for the track. The halfbrother to Maori Home has shown good form this season since being trained by W. R. Butt, recording three wins and six placings in 14 starts. He seems more at home on grass tracks, and he will have plenty of opportunities to improve his record further in the next few weeks.
