THE RABBIT NUISANCE

Sir,—ln a recent issue we noticed that a correspondent stated with reference to the Rabbit Nuisance Act: “Under section 80 it debars all ratepayers from catching rabbits on their own properties.” This is surprising. Common sense declares it stupid. Could you verify the statement as correct?—We are, etc.. Let’s Have the Truth. [There is no such explicit statement in the Act, but it has been so interpreted by many critics, who cite the clause which declares all skins of all rabbits destroyed by the board to be the property of the board, and that making it illegal for the board to make any payment for any work of destroying rabbits carried out on the land owned or occupied by a ratepayer.—Ed. ODT.]
