MR EDEN’S VISIT
Sir.—D. A. G.’s method in his scurrilous attack on England is typical of that New Zealanders always use of waiting till the person they are going to attack has left the country before they stab them. There have been many other such cases in the past—a case in point, the attack on Mr Le Feaux were libellous. For D. G. A. to accuse England of sending planes to Russia when she should have sent them in defence of New Zealand, is a cruel stab in the back. He says: “We should remember these things at which he has only barely hinted in our dealings with the Mother Country.” England was not ready when she entered the war, neither was America, and the war materials, as soon as they were made, had to go in defence of Europe., Has this country forgotten that England stood alone in 1939 and 1940? While America was getting ready, England had to defend herself. If England had fallen this country would have fallen too. and also America, if the enemy had attacked her before she was ready. Your correspondent periodically comes to light, always with scurrilous attacks on Britain. Mr Nash made a very hard deal the other day when he raised a loan in London at 3 per cent, to pay off the debt which had matured at 31 per cent:—this at a time when England is struggling fot her very existence. There Is not another country in the world where he could have done it, except the Mother Country New Zealanders" abuse so much.—l am. etc., Laura Carden
