Marshall, of Marton, are the guests of Mrs Ivo" Carr. Mr and Mrs Roland Watson returned yesterday from the North Island. Mrs N. Brett, of Auckland, is staying with her mother, Mrs J. R, Glendining. Mr and Mrs B. de Gates left by Friday morning’s express on their return to Malaya. Miss M. V. Arnold, of Auckland, is staying with her mother, Mrs M. E. Arnold, of St. Clair. Miss Elsie Zimmern is the guest of Mrs Eric Skinner, of Rawhiti street, Sunshine. Mrs B. Fraser, of Bournemouth, England, has been the guest of Mrs A. Drake, of Berwick. Mr and Mrs Stewart McGregor, of Mosgiel, have returned home from a holiday spent at Nelson, Wellington and Christchurch. Miss Nancye Walker, of Christchurch, has been staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs H. H. Walker, of Dunblane street. Mrs J. W. Munn, of St. Kilda, will leave Auckland to-day with Mr and Mrs H. W. Lyda, of the American Embassy, to join the Aorangi en route for America. Mrs E. B. Mawson, of London, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs G. M. Firth, of " Silveracres,” Anderson’s Bay. Dr R. Matheson and Mrs Matheson, of Invercargill, have been the guests of Mrs C. Matheson, of North Taieri. The first meeting for 1949 of the Dunedin branch of the National Council of Women will be held in the Pioneer Women’s Hall to-morrow evening. Mr and Mrs H. H. Walker entertained a large number of friends at a 5 o’clock party on Saturday evening in honour of their daughter Nancye, whose engagement to Mr Stanley K. Phillipps, of Palmerston North, has been announced. Mrs G. M. Burnett, Ladies’ Golf Union district representative for the OtagoSouthland area, is visiting Invercargill for the Southland championships which are to be held at Otatara Links from March 2 to 5. The first meeting for the year of the Wedderburn Sub-centre of the Red Cross Society was held at Mrs Shea’s residence on February 16. Advice was received that two Christmas parcels containing soap, face cloths and wool, and one of barley sugar, had arrived safely at the Brighton Girls’ Orphanage, England. The Christmas hamper sent to Montecillo Convalescent Home arrived in good condition. Some sewing was given out at the conclusion of the meeting. A social half hour was enjoyed. A programme of lectures and discussions for the coming season was planned at this year’s first council meeting of- the Otago Home Economics Association when Miss Keilar presided over representatives from branches at Craigleith, Glentui, Grand View, Halfway Bush, Kaikorai,

Kew, Maia. Mayfield, Mornington, North Dunedin, Pine Hill, Ravensbourne, St. Clair, St. Kilda. and Wakari. Mesdames Snell and Laidlaw, and Miss Stevenson were also present. Miss Brenda Bell was hostess at the Otago Women’s Club at a luncheon party for Miss Elsie Zimmern, of London. Miss Bell was a member of the committee of the Associated Countrywomen of the World, and Miss Zimmern was previously chairman of that organisation. Those present were Lady Cameron, Mesdames Gerald Fitzgerald, W. K. Cameron, G. S. Gillespie, W. A. Gillon, M. McAra, J. R. Haldane, J. M. Charles, W. J. Reid, and Eric Skinner.
