SHOOTING AND TENNIS

Present Pupils Win The annual shooting and tennis competitions between the past and present pupils of the Waitaki Boys’ High School were held at the school on Saturday morning. There was a good attendance of old boys and friends. In the rifle shooting the present pupils scored a narrow win by 775 points to 752 points, some particularly good scores being registered by both sides. The present pupils also had a narrow victory in the tennis. Results were (Waitaki names first):— Singles.—J. W. Duggan beat J. Rutherford 9—l. I. R. Duggan lost to S. Hurst 7—9, Stoddart lost to A. McDonald 2—9, G. McCone lost to K. Logan B—9, N. Clemens beat J. Pheloung 9—4, P. Thomas beat C. Melton 9—4, J. Mirfin beat M. Johnston 9—l. Doubles.—J. W. Duggan and I. R. Duggan beat A. McDonald and S. Hurst 9—4, M. Falkener and G. McCone lost to J. Rutherford and K. Logan 2—9, N. Clemens and Stoddart beat J. Pheloung and M. Johnston 9—3, P. Thomas and J. Mirfin lost to K. Logan and M. Johnston 7—9. Present pupils 6 games, Old Boys 5 games. The visitors were the guests of Mr J. T. Burrows to morning tea, which was served on the lawn. .
