BBC YEAR BOOK
The BBC Year Book for 1949 contains much interesting reading as well as a wealth of information. The main activities of the year are reported on and there are technical articles on the wbrk of broadcasting the Olympic Games and other subjects. The reference section gives more details than usual of the various BBC services, and there are 18 leading and general articles. Mr Francis Williams, for example, comments that “ the old fear of controversy has almost gone. It is sometimes indeed in danger of being replaced by a naive passion for controversy for controversy’s sake.” Another article deals with the influence of the radio on the English language.
