OFFICIAL ORDER TO ENTERTAIN GERMANS IN BRITISH MESSES
NZPA Special Correspondent
Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 17. The Berlin correspondent of the Daily Express says that a fierce controversy has been caused among British occupation forces in Germany by an order from Headquarters which gives instructions that Germans are to be invited to British officers' messes and entertained there. The correspondent says that members of the occupation force, already angered at the rising arrogance of the Germans, are deeply disturbed by the new orders and some officers have already proclaimed that they will face a court martial rather than obey them. All British messes are being granted £SO extra rations a month to provide for German guests, but are being given no extra liquor. British military bands in all parts of the British zone have also been ordered to give regular concerts for Germans who are prohibited from maintaining their own military bands.
