SEQUEL TO STREET CHASE

THREE MEN IN COURT PA WELLINGTON, Jan. 17. j The sequel to the chase in Taranaki street last night by a number Of youths from a city mission was the appearance in the Magistrate’s Court to-day of three men on a charge of stealing a wallet and its contents; £39 15s, from Ng You Sang, a Chinese, of Haining street. The accused were Arthur Ronald Quilter, aged 25, described as a wharf labourer, Edward Ernest Aitken, aged 33, a labourer,.arid Wilfi’ed Edward Hall, alias John Lund, aged 38. a barman. • ;■ Asking for a remand until January 19. Senior Detective Callaghan said al> three were arrested after receipt of' a complaint from Haining street. While he had no objection to Quilter beinc gi-anted bail, Detective Callaghan said that both Aitken and Hall were present on bail awaiting trial on; a charge of attempted breaking and entering. It was not desirable that eitHe; should be again out on bail. J Counsel for Aitken said that being kept in custody would prejudice hi? defence. The magistrate, Mr A. M. Goulding said he could not see how the defence would be prejudiced and refused bail for both Aitken and Hall.
