FINAL GATHERINGS
SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS
SOUTH ISLAND CONFERENCE
Special to the Daily Times
CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 17. Nearly 1000 Adventists attended the final gatherings at the camp meeting held in conjunction with the annual session of the South Island conference of Seventh Day Adventists. The highlights of the week-end programme included an evangelistic service with an old-time “ altar call,” during which several hundred persons stepped to the pulpit in the large marquee, thereby publicly showing their determination to live and work for God, and a missionary rally, during which the largest offering ever given in a South Island Adventist meeting was collected. Six hundred people attended a sacred concert on Saturday night. At the last meeting the president of the conference expressed appreciation of the work of the camp superintendent, Pastor A. C. Ball, of Greymouth, and of the cooks, who served more than 70,000 meals during the camp meeting. „ To-morrow, delegates from 39 Adventist churches in the North Island will begin their annual session. This will also take the form of a 10-day camp meeting, which will be held on the campus of the Adventist New Zealand Missionary College, Longburn, Palmerston North. About 2000 representatives will attend this meeting.
A brigade machine extinguished a gorse fire in Jackson street, Kaikorai; at 2.27 p.m. yesterday.
