INCREASE RECORDED

DEATHS FROM INFLUENZA IN BRITAIN

NO SIGN OF EPIDEMIC Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 15. A Ministry of Health official said that, in spite of the fact that there had been 47 deaths from influenza in London and the big towns of England and Wales in the past week, compared with 29 the previous week, there was still no sign of any epidemic of influenza in Britain. The beginning of an epidemic would be marked by a sudden steep rise in the figures. The official pointed out that there had been 165 deaths from influenza in the corresponding week in 1946. The official added that latest reports from the Continent indicated that the influenza prevalent, in France was generally of a mild character.
