secretary received no fees. At the end of the term a comprehensive report would be given showing development and costs, costs of farming and laying down pastures, and profits and losses year by year. This would enable farmers to examine the details and results, and decide for themselves whether irrigation as had been carried out would be to his advancement or not. Competitions held for the public resulted as follows:—Distance stepping: Men —A. C. Nichols (Kuriheka) and A. Malcolm (Windsor), correct distance. 64yds lft (equal), 1; E. J. Irvine (Papakaio), 64ydr, 6in, 3; ladies—Miss J. Nichols (Kuriheka), 46yds 2ft (correct distance, 44yds 2ft 2in), 1. Sheep guessing: J. S. Adams (Ot.kaike) and T. Gibson (Reed street), correct wright, 2001 b (equal), 1; E M. Gray (Orwell street) and R. Oakley (Papakaio). 20011 b, (equal), 3. The prizes for the various competitions were given by Messrs R. K. Ireland, A. C. Nichols and A. C. Hurst.
