SPLIT COMPLETE

VICTORIAN COUNTRY PARTY RECONCILIATION EFFORTS FAIL NZPA—Copyright MELBOURNE, Jan. 14. A split has developed in the Victorian Parliamentary Country Party, in spite of efforts to effect a reconciliation. Mr J. A. Hipworth said that he would remain a member of the Country Party, but would not stay in opposition with the party. He and six others will sit with the Government. A spokesman for the breakaways said they had concluded no agrement with the Liberals, and had made no bargain for portfolios. They were interested only in a stable Government. Overtures for peace between the former coalition parties have been abandoned.
