DUTCH IGNORE UNO ORDER TO RETIRE FROM OCCUPIED INDONESIA
NZPA—Copyright Rec. 1.15 a.m. NEW YORK, Jan. 14. The Dutch spokesman at Lake Success indicated that the Netherlands delegate would tell the United Nations that the Dutch would ignore any orders to retire from territory recently occupied in Indonesia, says the Associated Press. The spokesman said the Netherlands would never comply with such an order. He added that the delegate, Mr .T. Van Royen, would soon reply in detail to sharp attacks levelled-at the Netherlands by Australia and others. American sources indicated that the United States was opposed to any further efforts by the United Nations Council to order Dutch troops to withdraw, as they did not want the council to face another rebuff. It is understood that the United States and some other delegates are primarily interested in getting the council to make sure that elections will be held in Indonesia in the near future and a promise from the Dutch to transfer control to the projected United States of Indonesia at a definite date.
