PRISON FOR INDECENT ACT

LABOURER SENTENCED For commiting an indecent act in a hotel bar Thomas Joseph Hayes, aged 46, a labourer, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment by Mr J. D. Willis, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday morning. Mr Willis in passing sentence, commented that other offences of a similar nature had resulted in Hayes’s appearance in court on previous occasions. Counsel for the accused, Mr F. W. Guest, said that as the bar had been well-lighted there was little likelihood that the offence would have led to anything more serious. Bail Refused Bail was refused Arnold Alexander Turnbull, a 27-year-old labourer, who was remanded until January 20 on a charge of breaking and entering and theft.
