DECREASE IN BIRTHS
YEAR AND MONTH MARRIAGES ALSO DECLINE The vital statistics for Dunedin for 1948 show a decrease of 186 in the number of births compared with the previous year. In keeping with the general trend in recent years after the abnormally high figures in the immediate post-war period, the marriage statistics showed another decline. In spite of the mild winter, there was an increase of 25 in the number of deaths, though the returns for December showed a fall of 19 compared with the same’period last year. There was also an increase in the marriages for the month compared with December, 1947. • The details are:—
