TASMAN YACHT RACE

FIRST COMPETITOR FROM SOUTH ISLAND PA CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 28. The first South Island yacht to compete in the trans-Tasman yacht race, the Miranda, of . Lyttelton, owned by Mr F. W Dumerque, of Christchurch, will leave Lyttelton on the morning of January 5 for Sydney. The race will start from Sydney on January 29. ‘The Miranda will be skippered by Mr. Dumerque, who will also act as radio operator. With him as crew he will have Messrs D. Varnharh, of Lyttelton: O. Wilkes, of Christchurch: and Andy Anderson, of Lyttelton. All are experienced yachtsmen. - The Miranda will sail about 10.30 a.m. on January 5 direct for Sydney, via Cook Strait. The voyage is estimated to take 12 to 14 days, and this will give the skipper and crew time for final preparations in Sydney before the race starts.
