RIVER REPORTS
The Mataura river is slightly up and a little milky, but fish are taking the fly, and if the weather remains favourable this river should be in great order for the Christmas fishing. The two branch rivers, the Mimihau and Wyndham, are both clear and in good order, and are excellent alternative streams should the Mataura be affected by rain in the back country. The Waipahi River is slightly up but In good order, while the Owaka Is in a similar condition, but the Catlins is in perfect order. No report was received from the Pomahaka, but it is expected that this river will be in much the same condition as the Mataura, and as most of the snow has passed through, it should clear up fairly quickly. The Shag River is clear and m good order and fish have been rising to the dry fly in the evening. The Mahinerangi dam is also promising, as some excellent fish have been taken from this water during the last month.
