“REALLY A REPUBLIC”
MR FRASER’S VIEW OF BRITISH COMMONWEALTH
LONDON. Dec. 22
The New Zealand Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, speaking at Belfast to-day, said: “We cannot see any fundamental difference between our British Commonwealth and any Republic. We arc really a Republic, with the King our head. The King is the link, and a very good link, I would say.
“There is no gathering of nations or States in the world which is more democratic or destined to do more for democracy and freedom than the British Commonwealth. For that reason we regret any weakening and trust that ultimately whatever realignments there may be, thay will come back to support the British CommonweaUh in the stand which must be taken to protect democracy and freedom throughout the world. ’’ Mr Fraser welcomed the formation of the Western Union.
