Fast Times Recorded In the Final Athletic Meeting of the Year
A south-west wind and a firm track were helpful to competitors at the final meeting for the year of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday. Some fast times were recorded in the sprint events, B. G. Gosney, of St. Kilda, winning the Junior 75 Yards in 7 3-ssec, while A. G. Lawless, the promising Leith all-rounder, was successful in the 440 Yards, returning the time of 54 2-ssec. J. H. Borland (University) reached sft 9in in the A grade High Jump, one inch and a-half below the mark at which he won the High Jump at Christchurch on December 11. Borland was the only competitor in this event. 1 R. Ferens (Caversham), who was the only starter in the Mile Walk, did well to finish in 7mln 57 2-ssec, and R. Burns (Leith) shared the honours of the day with Miss M. Tyler (Otago Ladies), Burns winning the Senior 220 Yards Hurdles and the B grade Discus Throw, and Miss Miss Tyler the 220 Yards and High Jump. Cycling events once again proved a popular feature of the meeting, and children's races aroused much enthusiasm among the younger spectators. Results:— A Grade High Jump.—J. M. Borland (OU), scr, 1.
