HEAVY DEMAND ON RADIO-TELEPHONE SERVICE THIS YEAR
PA WELLINGTON, Dec. 17. A Post Office official stated to-day that radio telephone calls, both to and from the United Kingdom, were fully booked up for Christmas Day. The majority of the traffic would be disposed of in a three-hour session from midnight to 3 a.m. He explained that the period from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. would also be available, but as conditions were not generally favourable at this time it was not expected that much could be done to relieve the congestion. Under favcurable conditions an average of six calls an hour would be handled. No difficulty is anticipated with Australian calls as 15 hours of operating time are available this year against 10 last year. The calling period will be from 9 a.m. to midnight daily, and calls have been booked from all parts of New Zealand. Calls to and from the United States will be dealt with in two periods—3 a.m. to 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m Calls have been booked for many parts of Europe.
