NEW RECORD

WOOL PRICE EIGHTY-ONE PENCE AT CHRISTCHURCH STRONG COMPETITION PA CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 15. The New Zealand record price of 81d was paid for part of a Marlborough merino clip at the first Christchurch wool sale to-day. The sale opened on a bright note, and early it became apparent that there was practically no limit for choice fine wools. Halfway through the first catalogue 80d was paid for the tops of a Marlborough merino clip, and the second cut made 793 d. The 80d was bettered in the third catalogue, when 80Jd was paid for part of another Marlborough merino clip. Shortly after, 803 d was paid, and in the last catalogue the record price was reached. The same grower received 80d for his second cut. With the exception of one Mid-Canterbury clip, all prices at 80d and better were paid for Marlborough wool. Official Report The official report issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association, ‘in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Disposal Commission, says the first main Christchurch wool sale was held in the' Civic Theatre to-day. A catalogue of over 30,000 bales was offered. The selection was mostly of good to super style, and the catalogues largely comprised hogget wools and ewe clips shorn before lambing. Some of the wool was dusty, due to the dry winter and spring. A very full bench of buyers attended the sale, and competition was very keen. Although the successful purchases were limited to comparatively few, the local mills were keen to procure their usual supplies, and most of the choicest lines fell to their bids.

Practically every lot was sold at auction, and the prices realised will be very satisfactory to growers, as, in spite of the altered exchange rate, values were as good as at the. peak sales last season. Following is the official range of prices:—
