The defendants were George Robert Manton, a seaman labourer, aged 18; Ronald Arthur Hill, a seaman labourer, aged 18; Stanley Couzin, a seaman labourer, aged 38; and George Rainbow, an hotel porter, aged 21. They were each fined £3 by the presiding justices, Messrs G. Stratton and G. Kitchin. "Vandalism is committed by this type of person,” said Senior Sergeant Vaughan, who added that the offence had taken place in Stafford street at 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday. The four men had been under the influence of liquor.
