LACK OF DRAINAGE

SUBDIVISIONS HELD UP H - VICINITY OF HELENSBURGH ROAD A private subdivision in Dunedin, known as Remshardt’s subdivision, providing for about 200 sections in Helensburgh road, Wakari, was held from development 4 by a lack of drainage. A new hospital was also to be built theie, and the area would ultimately have a population of 1400 persons There would also be a subdivision past the hospital providing for a further 300 to 350 sections. A statement on these lines was made by Cr Ireland at a meeting of the City Council last night in reply to a question by Cr Hayward. Cr Ireland said that, owing to the complex nature of the hills in the area, the drainage system was now barely adequate for the present buildings. and could carry no additions. The approval of subdivisions in the area could not be given until the drainage position was improved. This would depend on obtaining pipes and labour to do the work.
