FAREWELL FUNCTIONS

PRINCIPAL HADDON’S DEPARTURE The governing boards of five or six of the large universities of the central and western States of America having Invited Principal A. L. Haddon for a three months’ lecturing tour of their respective institutions during the New Zealand summer vacation of the Bible College, Glen Leith, Dunedin, Principal Haddon, will leave Dunedin this morning. He is' to arrive in the United States next Sunday, and is scheduled to preach in San Francisco as a commencement of the tour. A farewell tea at the Vedic was tendered by the members and wives of the Management Board of the Glen Leith Bible College, when the guests of honour were Principal and Mrs Haddon, Mr Frank L. Purnell, and Mr A. W. Grundy, organising secretary of the Dominion Churches of Christ. Mr and Mrs A. Botting acted as host and hostess, and valedictory speeches extending cangratulations and good wishes were delivered by Mr E. R. Vickery (college lecturer), Mr H. C. BischofT, minister of St. Andrew Street Church, and Mr F. L. Purnell, Dominion missioner. On Sunday evening an after-church farewell gathering was arranged by the North-East Valley Church, where Principal Haddon has ministered for many years. The high regard in which the principal is held was stressed in the cordiality of the wishes for a safe journey and a happy return.
