MAADI TENT ORGANISER
POPULAR ARMY CHAPLAIN DEATH OF REV. P. W. GUINNESS N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 29. The death occurred recently while on holiday at Kyrenia. in Cyprus; of the Rev. Percy Wyndham Guinness. D. 5.0., 0.8. E., M.C., and Church of England chaplain at Maadi, Heliopolis and Helwan (near Cairo) during-th* war years. Mr Guinness took a close personal interest in the welfare oLtha New Zealand base troops stationed at Maadi Base Camp. ’<■ As chairman of the Maadi Recreation Tent Committee, he took a leading part in organising and directing that very popular establishment. With his sister, Miss Flora Guinness, he also acted as host to many hundreds of New Zealanders. Mr Guinness, who was 73, was awarded the D.S.O. ano M.C. as a chaplain in the First World War.
