Bruce Promises A Return to Form
Special to the Daily Times. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 29,
Bruce continues .to do well since he came home from Trentham. There has been no recurrence of the lameness that was in evidence after his race last Monday in the Harcourt Stakes. L. J. Ellis realises, however, that he cannot afford to have any more checks in the horse’s preparation if he is to be at his best for his Riccarton engagements. Mestiza, who developed trouble in one of her legs recently, will not do any more racing. The Wild Chase mare has been sent to the North Island to be mated with Balloch. F. Christmas has taken Kinrara in hand after a spell, but his prospects are doubtful, as he has been unsound more than once. Nearly 15 months have elapsed since he had his last race.
Sky High, a three-year-old by Airway from Lake Mist, is having a spell for a few months, after which J. S. Shaw will get him ready for autumn racing. The three-year-old colt Firelight, by Salmagundi from Sparkle, had his first race at the Banks Peninsula meeting last week, but he made a moderate showing. Mr W. E. Hazlett, of Invercargill, sent him to J. S. Shaw a few months ago, but as he has shown no evidence of form, he will be sent back to his home in Southland. It j- is probable he will be gelded.
