MR JORDAN’S WORK

NON-REAPPOINTMENT CAUSES SURPRISE TERM MERELY EXTENDED P.A. WELLINGTON, Oct. 28. “It is very surprising to me that the High Commissioner, Mr Jordan, has not been reappointed in the ordinary way for a further three years, but has only had his term extended for 18 months,” said the Mayor of Wellington. Mr Will Appleton, who returned from England yesterday on the Rangitiki. He added that Mr Jordan was of invaluable help to a visitor from New Zealand and was well regarded and immensely popular. When the extent of Mr Jordan’s past and present work was known, said Mr Appleton, it was “ rather remarkable ” that the Government had not reappointed him instead of merely extending his term.
