W. J. Bromby Has Team of Eight For Cup Meeting

Special to the Dally Times WELLINGTON, Oct. 28. W. J. Bromby, the most successful trainer at the Wellington meeting with three wins, three seconds and a third, will be represented by a team of eight at t&e New Zealand Cup meeting—Omega, Renowned, Distinction, Brenlock, Colorado Maid, Talent, Abbotsford and Air Belle. The last-named, with Foxmorn, joined Bromby's team on Wednesday. Renowned, Colorado Maid and Distinction are engaged in the New Zealand Cup, but Distinction will not start if a suitable light-weight rider cannot be secured for him. Renowned and Colorado Maid have done well since winning at Trentham, and both should have a good season. Talent has recovered from the soreness which prevented him from racing at the Wellington meeting and will contest the Welcome Stakes only. Ten horses from Trentham are engaged at the Rangitikei meeting on Saturday, and there was little fast work this morning. The trial grass was available for galloping and provided firm going. Bonnie Fair and the maiden, Melite, drew attention to their prospects by a brilliant sprint over five furlongs. Colopier w r as too good for Vitesse over five furlongs, finishing two lengths in front in lmiii 4scc, the final half-mile taking olsec and three furlongs 38sec. Colopier is improved with his race on the last da\ at Trentham. King of Quiz was not required to do his best to leave half a mile behind in 52 l-ssec, the final three 'furlongs in 39sec. King of Quiz raced well enough at the Hawke's Bay meeting to be given a chance in the McKelvie Memorial at Bulls where the turning track should suit him. Melite showed brilliance to lead Bonnie Fair in the early stages of five furlongs, but the latler was on terms at the completion of the trial in lmin 2sec. Signal Officer is to return to Riccarton to-night. He showed that he had taken no harm from his winning effort in the Harcourt Stakes when he strode easily over half a mile in 51 l-ssec this morning.
