BRASS BAND FESTIVAL TO BE HELD IN FEBRUARY P.A. WELLINGTON, Oct. 28. Forty-five bands have entered for the championship brass band festival to be held at Auckland from February 13 to 19, this being a record number for New Zealand, according to Mr J. G. Osborne, secretary of the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association; The following bands have been nominated for the various tests:— Championship Class. Auckland Watersiders, Hawera Municipal, Kaikorai Brass, 2nd New Zealand Armoured Regiment, Woolston Brass, Wanganui Garrison, and Wellington Watersiders. B Grade.—A section: Ashburton Silver, Auckland Watersiders (Junior), Ist Battalion Auckland Regiment, Blenheim Regimental, Hastings Citizens’, Wellington Institute, Lower Hutt Municipal, Nelson Garrison, Palmerston North Garrison and Greymouth Municipal- B section: Crichtons Cobbers, Hamilton Citizens, Te Aroha Municipal, Newmarket Returned Soldiers, Wellington Tramways, Whangarei Municipal. . , C Grade.—Auckland City, Gisborne City, Hawke’s Bay Regimental, Kerepehi Boys, Marton Municipal, Masterton Municipal, Matamata Citizens, Motueka Citizens, Mount Eden, Ngaruawahia Municipal, Otahuhu Railway Workshops, Patea Municipal, Papatoetoe Municipal, Ponsonby Boys, Takapuna Municipal, Te Akarana Girls, Te Aroha Boys, Te Awamutu Municipal and Wellington Watersiders. (Junior). The test selections will be: —Championship Class: “ Carmen ” (Bizet) and “Northern Rhapsody” (Keighley). B Grade:, A section: “Gems of Chopin,” "Sinfonietta ” (Gheel), and “Pride of Race” (K. A. Wright). B section: “Serenade" (Mozart). C Grade: “Divertimento” (Eric Ball). The judges will be: Messrs A. H. Baillie (Sydney), T. Goodall (Wellington), and J. D. Goffin (Timaru).
