The Rev. J. J. North, editor of the New Zealand Baptist for 32 years, has resigned. Commodore G. W. G. Simpson, C.M.G.. R.N., Chief of the Naval Staff, will leave by air this morning for Wellington. At a meeting of the Otago Harbour Board last night, Mr H. C. Carter was elected to fill the vacancy on the Dunedin Development Council created by the death of Mr A. L. S. Cassie. The board nominated Mr F. E. Tyson as its representative passenger on the “ sample ” flight from Dunedin to Cromwell next Wednesday. A presentation was made to Mr and Mrs T. Gilchrist, who are celebrating their golden wedding, at the meeting of the Burns Club on Wednesday night. Mr Gilchrist has been a member of the Burns Club Executive for over 30 years.
