NEW MAIL SERVICE
MACANDREW AND BROAD BAYS The' Minister of Defence. Mr Jones would be present at the inauguration of the Macandrew Bay-Broad Bay mail service on November 1. This advice was received at a meeting of the Peninsula County Council yesterday. It was decided that, although a postman had not yet been obtained for the Portobello area, the council would sponsor a ceremony there when the first official delivery had been made from Macandrew Bay. Present at the meeting were:—The chairman, Mr T. Edmonds, Crs M. Geary. R. W. Aitken, J. F. Nelson, O. Macfie, A. Bolting, J. Jensen, D. Rutherford and G. Simon.
The plans for the tar-sealing of the Main road at Tomahawk had been approved by the Highways Board, the chairman advised, but it was decided that no work on the road could be done until monetary assistance from the board had been obtained. The county clerk was instructed to request this assistance.
Advice that building permits to the value of £1598 had been issued during the month was received.
