WIN FOR VICTORIAN

AUSTRALIAN AMATEUR GOLF • TITLE ALMOST PERFECT PUTTING MELBOURNE, Oct. 17. ' Doug Bachli (Victoria) putted tlis way to a convincing 7 and 6 win over Peter Heard (New South Wales) in the final of the Australian Amateur Golf Championship at the Metropolitan links yesterday. Bachli’s win was not surprising. He won the Queensland amateur title early this year, and has since had a string of victories in important amateur events. Accuracy of iron shots and almost perfect putting kept Bachli well on top throughout yesterday’s 36-hole match. In spite of a strong wind, he covered the pin with almost every approach, and sank putts for wins and halves from distances up to 50 feet. With such perfect golf, he led 5 up after the first nine in the afternoon.

The only time Heard looked like pressing Bachli was when he won the seventh and eighth holes in the afternoon, the seventh with a stymie, and the eighth with a 25-foot putt for a birdie 3.

Neither Heard nor Bachli will play in the Australian Open Championship, which begins at Kingston Heath next Thursday. Heard is unable to spare the time from his business, and Bachli neglected to lodge an entry in time.
