UNESCO DELEGATION

CONFERENCE AT BEIRUT

DOMINION REPRESENTATIVES P.A. , . WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. A delegation of four will represent New Zealand at the third general conference of UNESCO, which is to be held at Beirut from November 17 to December 12. This was announced today by the Minister of Education, Mr McCombs. The delegation will be Mr R. G. Ridling, M.A., Dip. Agr., principal of the Wellington Technical College; Dr H. N„ Parton, M.Sc., associate professor of physical chemistry,

Canterbury University College, Mr M. H. Holer oft, journalist and of Invercargill; and Mr D. Cairns, M.ac., secretary-executive officer of the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO. Mr Ridling will lead the delegation. Dr Parton is at present overseas studying modern advances, in physical chemistry in England, and will proceed to Beirut from London. Mr Holcroft, a former editor of the Southland Times, is at present in Paris attending, at UNESCO’s request and expense, a special meeting to discuss the problems of the tensions which affect mutual understanding between the peoples. Mr Cairns, during 1946. was adviser to the Chinese Government and UNRRA on the reconstruction of the fishing industry in China.
