OFFICE-BEARERS ELECTED

FORM OF CAPPING CONCERT Students who attended the spring meeting of the. Otago University Students’ Council last night took part in a heated discussion on the respective merits of the old and new forms of the Capping Concert, and finally carried a recommendation favouring the old form. The annual report of the student body referred to Otago’s achievement in filling second place at the Easter tournament and first at the August tournament. It stated that as there was little prospect of Otago acquiring a new Students’ Association building for at least 10 years, the stage in Allen Hall should be remodelled. The Capping Committee was congratulated on its successful activities and on the sale of the record number of 18,000 Capping Books. The sports review showed that 1200 students took partin sports activities and 16 per cent, were associated with intellectual clubs. Election for offices other than those of president and vice-presidents resulted: —Finance representative, Mr G. Ellis (Comerce)- social representative, Mr H. Rainey (Medical); men’s sports representative. Mr McCoy (Medical); intellectual affairs representative, Mr D. C. Hay (Medical); women’s sports representative, Miss Alison Cameron (Home Science); capping controller, Mr K. Mackwell; business manager, Mr J. W. Saunders.
