NEW PETROL CUTS

FORECAST IN AUSTRALIA Rec. 9 p.m. CANBERRA, Aug. 16. A cut of 20 per cent, in some peirol licences from the beginning of October is forecast by some Commonwealth officials. It is expected that truck owners will suffer most under the new cuts, which will be tapered to fall least heavily on private car owners. Cabinet will consider the petrol supply problem on August 30 when it will have before i< the report and recommendations from a special subcommittee of Ministers which met in Sydney last week. A report by the federal director of rationing shows that in 1939 Australia used 360,000,000 gallons of petrol, and that, in spite of rationing, this figure rose to 395,000,000 gallons at the end of 1947.
